So you think you might want to join us???? Joining GallupCAP is a pretty simple but since we only meet once a month can take a little longer then usual. So, to speed things along please follow these steps. The initial process is the same for both prospective Cadets and Senior (adult) Members which goes something like the following:

  • Step 1: Show up at one of our meetings that is announced on the Contact & Meeting Times page by clicking on the tab above.
  • Step 2: When you get there, find one of our members and tell them that you are interested in joining, or simply want more info and we will be happy to tell you everything you need to know.  There will be no high pressure sales techniques used or anything.  Although we are always on the look out for new members, we are not simply out for seeing how many members we can get to join.  We want you to get all the info you need and you may stay as long as you want.
  • Step 3: We encourage you to ask as many questions as you want and you may talk to anyone you want.  We have no recruiters!!!  However, nearly everyone that has been in the unit for a while should be able to answer any question or concern you have.
  • Step 4: When the meeting is over, go home and search the Internet for all the info you can find on the CAP.  Read and learn as much as you can.  All CAP units operate under the same rules, but you will find that we operate a little differently than most units in that we take what we do a little more seriously than other units. This is reflected in our long list of awards and achievements that our members have accomplished as a result of their "GallupCAP Experience".
  • Step 5: Come back to the next meeting and if you are serious about joining the best CAP unit around, then we can talk more seriously.  If you are a Cadet, we will want to talk to your parents to let them know what is expected and also to answer any questions they have.
  • Step 6:  If you do decide to join then we will then accept your application and registration fees and you can begin your own "GallupCAP Experience"!

Young people can become a GallupCAP Cadet at age 12 through 18.  There is a $30.00 registration fee which covers the cost of your books and laibility insurance.  This fee also covers the cost of a basic USAF Blue Uniform (depending on funding from the Air Force).  This does NOT include the cost of insignia and the camo BDU Uniform.  ALL Cadets will be expected to get a BDU uniform in addition to all the parts and wear it correctly to all meetings.  You will be given a reasonable time (2 months) to get this uniform after you join. We will show you how to wear and care for it.

We also encourage at least 1 Parent/Guardian to consider joining as well. Joining CAP as a family is not unusual and we have seen families grow together as a result of their shared "GallupCAP Experience".

To help speed things along, have a Cadet Application filled out and signed by your parent or legal guardian.  Below are 2 versions of the same application.

Once you fill out the application and have your parents or LEGAL Guardian sign it, bring the application and a check or money order for $30.00, made out to "Civil Air Patrol" to your next meeting.

Adults in the CAP are referred to as a "Senior Member" or simply "Seniors". There are several different types of Senior memberships but the basic process is the same.  The cost to join as a Senior Member is $65.00.

Once you decide to join, you will need to pay the Senior member registration fee and have to be fingerprinted and the fingerprint cards will be sent to the FBI for a background check.  Since we have young people in our program and since one of the missions of the CAP is Homeland Security, we do not want people with questionable backgrounds around our Cadets or involved in missions and this is one way we use to ensure the safety of everyone in CAP.

We can sometimes fingerprint you at our unit during the meeting (usually the Saturday meeting), so you will not need to go to the police or sheriff's office to be fingerprinted.

Once your fingerprints and background check has been done, you will be issued a membership card and you may start.  This process usually takes a few weeks.

The CAP has several "uniform" options available for Seniors.  Some are military and some do not have a military look at all.

To help speed things along, have a Senior Application filled out and signed.  Below are 2 versions of the same application.

Once you fill out the application and sign it. Bring the application along with the completed fingerprint card and a check or money order for $65.00, made out to "Civil Air Patrol" to your next meeting.

Fingerprint Cards: You can pick up a CAP fingerprint card at any of our meetings.  You can then go to any of the local law enforcement agencies to be fingerprinted and pay a fee, or we will be happy to fingerprint you for FREE at our monthly meeting.
*** You MUST use a CAP fingerprint card that we give you. You may NOT use a fingerprint card provided by another agency!!!

Please do not fold the fingerprint card. Please use an envelope large enough to send it without folding it.
If you are a former GallupCAP member (Cadet or Senior)  and would like to renew, if it has not been more than 2 years since your membership expired, you may simply renew online at the CAP National HQ Website by clicking here!

That link should take you to the CAP Member Sign-in page.  All you have to do is type in your old CAP Number and your password and you can renew online using a credit or debit card.  Renewal should happen immediately and you will be placed on our roles once again!

This is the preferred method for all renewals since it will happen instantly!  You will not have to fill out any papers or anything!

If it has been longer than 2 years since your membership expired, you will need to rejoin as if you were brand new and follow the processes to the left!

In most cases you will be reinstated at your former rank/grade and you will keep all of your acheivements and awards.
